City Hospice to open its largest charity shop in the capital

City Hospice, the only provider of home-based specialist palliative care in Cardiff, has announced it is opening its largest charity shop to date.

City Hospice is opening its largest store to date on Colchester Avenue

The new store located on Colchester Avenue, Cardiff spans over 3,500 square feet and will not only offer a wide range of high quality pre-loved items such as accessories, books, clothing, furniture and homeware, but will also feature a dedicated community space.

Designed to bring people together, the community space will allow local residents to participate in crafting sessions, upcycling and other creative workshops and will provide a welcoming environment for individuals to learn new skills, connect with others and support the hospice’s work through engagement.

The grand opening of the store will take place on the 3rd of October with the ribbon-cutting ceremony set to be attended by City Hospice representatives, local supporters of the charity and members of the community. Janey Howell, the High Sheriff of South Glamorgan, will be cutting the ribbon and officially opening the store at 10am.

The new store will also feature a dedicated community space. Rhiwbina store pictured.

The expanded store will be a flagship for City Hospice’s fundraising efforts, with every purchase, donation and community event enabling City Hospice to continue providing vital care for patients with terminal or life limiting illnesses and support for their families.

Liz Booyse, Chief Executive of City Hospice, said: “We’re especially proud that our new shop, our largest ever in Cardiff, will not only raise funds for the charity but also serve as a hub for the community.

“Through our workshops and events, we aim to create a space where people can come together, share experiences and support one another – all while contributing to a cause that helps so many families across Cardiff during life’s most challenging moments.”

The charity invites the local community to support the new store by shopping, donating gently used goods, volunteering or attending one of the many workshops planned throughout the year.

Donations can be dropped off during store hours at Unit 4, Design Quarter, 145 Colchester Avenue.
