⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

The Rocky Horror Show is at the New Theatre Cardiff until the 9th of November

We came for the musical, stayed for the madness, and we'll definitely be coming back for more

The Rocky Horror Show at the New Theatre Cardiff is, quite ‘Frankly’, a riot from start to finish. From the moment you enter the sold-out theatre, there’s a buzz in the air like no other – the excitement really is contagious.

As first-time viewers – or, as seasoned fans would call us, Rocky Horror ‘virgins’ – we didn’t know quite what to expect. But after one night in this wildly unpredictable world, we're absolutely hooked. We’re already planning to come back and see it again, and again, and again, next time the show returns! I think it’s fair to say we came for the musical, stayed for the madness, and we’ll be coming back for more.

A huge part of the show's fun is the audience itself, with fans dressed to the nines in corsets, fishnets, and extravagant costumes inspired by the characters.

This isn’t a typical sit-down-and-watch musical – far from it! The audience is an active participant in the show, transforming each line into a lively call-and-response exchange. Fans who have seen the show multiple times bring a playful sense of familiarity, shouting out traditional heckles and even adding their own twists. You really can’t compare it to any other musical.

At times, it feels like a comedy show, with the actors responding to the heckles in real time, adding a level of improv that makes each performance feel one-of-a-kind. Some jokes are so perfectly timed, you almost wonder if they’re rehearsed (a lot of the time they’re not!), which speaks to the serious talent of the cast.

The show itself is pure, unapologetic R-rated fun. As Frank-N-Furter takes the stage, we’re transported into a world of camp, flamboyance, and outrageous humour that’s impossible to resist.

As expected, It’s Frank-N-Furter, played by the incredibly talented Stephen Webb, who truly owns the night. And I’m sure you’re wondering whether he does Tim Curry’s iconic character justice… And the answer is ABSOLUTELY. From the moment Webb struts on stage in his corset and heels, it’s impossible to look away. It’s easy to see why Frank-N-Furter has become such an iconic figure in musical theatre.

Another standout performance came from the brilliant Nathan Caton as the Narrator. His dry wit and comedic timing kept the audience laughing all night long - and he handled the heckles effortlessly every time!

The musical itself is everything you'd hope for – campy, over-the-top, and absolutely hilarious. From start to finish, it’s packed with memorable moments and laugh-out-loud scenes, amplified by the audience’s wild energy. The blend of comedy, music, and complete weirdness makes it a joyride like no other!

If you're looking for a night out that’s equal parts theatrical spectacle and interactive comedy, The Rocky Horror Show at New Theatre Cardiff is undoubtedly the place to be!

*The show is currently sold out every night in Cardiff but it’s worth double checking for any returns*
